One Room Challenge Week 1: Updating Our Guest Room!

If you thought I wasn’t crazy enough to redo a room in the middle of a pandemic, you would be wrong! I have been waiting so long to tell you guys that I am participating in the One Room Challenge and updating our guest room! Like, a really long time because the event was postponed due to COVID-19.

Anyway, in case you have never heard of the One Room Challenge, it’s a six-week design event that occurs twice a year (spring and fall). Design influencers and guest participants update a room and share their progress every week. The event is not a competition – more like a fun, supportive way to update a space with others on a timeline. I am participating for my first time ever as a guest participant, and I’m so excited! I have updated other spaces as part of a group with a timeline, and love the support and encouragement others provide, along with the accountability of a timeline. I am a project manager by day, after all. This round of the One Room Challenge will actually be spread over 8 weeks instead of the usual 6 due to the COVID-19 situation.

So, back to the guest room! I explain more in the videos below, but essentially our guest room needs a little love. It was updated 4 or 5 years ago, but since then it has become a bit of a catch-all where the décor I no longer love goes to die. The goal is to update the space and create a more calm, relaxing, comfortable space for guests.

Sorry for the noisy dog in my videos!

And here are a few before photos:

If you want to see my mood board for the room, you’ll have to stick around for a bit! I will be sharing weekly updates here on the blog and on Instagram every Thursday. I can’t wait to follow along, too, and I will be sharing other participating accounts on Instagram throughout the 8 weeks.

If you want to check out the other participants now, click here!

See you next week!
